Picture Books! Not just for small children!
I liked reading and hearing your stories that you all wrote to go with the wordless picture books. It was exciting to see how creative you could be with just a few pictures or even with a longer book. I like to see how well the artist and the author combine their talents to create a story. The picture can make the story even better.
What kind of picture books do you like? Did your parents read picture books to you when you were little? Which ones were your favorites then? What is the best part of a picture book?
Actually my sister read picture books to me when I was little. My favorite author was most likely Dr. Suess. The best part of a picture book is the beggining of the book because it’s a mystery and it’s all confusing because you don’t know what it’s about!

I am actually not a big picture book fan, but I was when I was little I did .I don’t like them Because there is less to read and I love to read! and I did when I was little because they helped me understand what the author was telling me.

I really liked David Wiesner’s picture books when you read them to us in class. He has a great ability to imagine abstract things. I think that the point of a wordless picture book is to kind of force you to use your own imagination and tell the story from your point of view using the way that you look at the pictures and your own interpretation. I haven’t read a picture book in quite a while and I really enjoyed studying the pictures and thinking of what it meant and listening to you tell your way of telling the story too! Thank you so much for giving me this wonderful experience!
Thanks for your lovely comments Abby. I’m glad you enjoyed the telling and the stories. As a librarian I believe we are never to old to enjoy any kind of literature. Maybe that keeps us young at heart even when we turn into grandparents. I’ll keep reading all kinds of books and I’ll let you know when I am a grandparent if what I think turns out to be true.

My parents read me alot of picture books when i was little. i dont think they are just for small children because, if you are just coming to America and learning how to read little words even if you are not a kid you can still read and look at picture books.

I read a lot of picture books to my children too! Parents like to share that special time with their kids. You are so right about picture books helping people to learn English - the pleasure of a story is universal and everyone enjoys hearing a good book.

I think that picture books are for every age because they can have a lot of good stories in them. Like The Cat in the Cat in the hat it is one of my favorite book in the world. Most people think picture books are for two and three year olds.
Very true Leanne - sometimes there is a wonderful rhyme or a memory that a picture book reminds us of. The Cat in the Hat is a joy whenever I read it.

I think picture books are nice for the whole family. One of my family’s Christmas Eve traditions is to read “Twas The Night Before Christmas” which is a picture book. You can also spend time with a little brother or sister (if they don’t know how to read, or even if they do.) You also don’t have to picture things in your mind which is sometimes nice.

I still read picture books! I think that we are really visually oriented and we respond to pictures differently from printed words. Sometimes the pictures enhance the pictures I make in my mind.
