Aquarium Habitat
Once you have decided on what fish to put into our aquarium, it is necessary to choose the habitat - plants, gravel, decorations with care. We have a 35 gallon tank. What kind of gravel, plants, heater, and filter should we have?
Please remember to tell us where you found your information. Use this strand to talk about freshwater aquarium habitat.
the gallons of water of the tank must be he same or more than the length of thhe fish in inches.
Hi Jackson,
If I have a 35 gallon tank does that mean that I can’t have more than 35 inches worth of fish in my tank? That’s a cool fact, but where did you learn it?
Mrs. B.
First you need a thermometer to check the tempurature of the tank on a daily basis. For a heater, 4 watts per gallon. So if you had a 35 gallon tank you would need a 140 watt heater for your aquarium. 500 ways
need a filter - make sure you have interesting species of fish - also have nice plants for the fish to live in and that will also atract people -

I saw the page on what shape your aquarium should be and it said if you are looking for a big fish tank look into the recatangle shaped ones. Those tend to be the biggest but be careful because it looks bigger than it really is. If you are looking for a small bowl look into the ovel shaped. It is really good for gold fish because it is small and a good quiet habitat.
Hi Ben,
Nice comments about fish tanks. I always thought that rectangular aquariums would be best, but didn’t know they would look bigger than they are. Interesting. I know that if you have a bowl for a goldfish you need to make sure the top is large enough so that there is plenty of oxygen for your fish. Where did you find your information? Another cool fact has to do with number of fish that can go into an aquarium. It’s not really the number of fish, but the length, in inches of the fish in relation to the number of gallons of water. Look for that fact in our blog.

A cool fish is a Viejita. It grows up to 3 inches. They are cave spawners that need very soft, acidic water to breed in the aquarium.
Great comment - can you tell us where you found this information? Also, what is “very soft, acidic water”? Would we want them to breed?

Do fish help global warming?
How do fish know what to eat?
Fish live by you giving them everything they need.
How many fish can servive from ocean pollutant?
It is very sad when your pet fish dies!
I do not know the answers to those questions. What have you done to find the answers?
Mrs. B.
when adding a new fish to your tank it is best to gradually introduce them to it. When handeling with very valuble fish it is easyest to use a quartine which is a smallish kind of tank that you should keep them in for 1-2 weeks before puting them int to the real tank. This is because if it gets a disease it will be obvious, and it wouldn’t infect the other fish.
What great comments Rory. Thank you for your thoughtful addition to our knowledge. The use of quarantine is a good idea with all new fish since it gives the new fish a chance to get used to (acclimate) the new space. Do you have fish, or did you find this information in one of our many resources?
