Aquarium research - grade 5
We are researching aquariums.
1. First we need to define THE ESSENTIAL QUESTION
what makes a good Essential Question?
if you are having trouble thinking of an Essential Question, use the GOOD QUESTION CUBE to give you a jump-start.
example of a question might be: what kind of fish can go into a freshwater aquarium?
Essential questions
2. How many fish can fit in a 35 gallon tank?
What kind of fish food do I need to have?
4. What equipment will I need?
What kind of filter will I need?
What is the feeding schedule?
What temperature should the water be?
1. What type of fish should we buy?
5. How often do we clean the aquarium?
What is the life span of the fish?
3. How much do the fish cost?
How much water do we put into the 35 gallon tank?
How long before I can put my fish into the tank?
What do I do about evaporation?
How many rock do we put in the tank?
What kind of plants should we have?
Do we need algae?
There are many different kinds of goldfish you can put into inddoor tanks nowa-days. Many tropical species of clownfish cowfish and small tiny types of swimming wonders @=)
Essential Question: What type of fish should you put in fresh water tanks?Answer:neons or cardinal tetras, Corydoras catfish, any of the small barbs, rasboras, loaches, or pearl and zebra danios are recomended for fresh water tanks.
Information from: Ehow.com
Hi E&M
I know that someone else suggested not having catfish, can you do some more checking? I’ve heard of loaches at the pet store and they are good fish. Which ones get along together?
Mrs. B.
To find out how much water to put in your tank you multiply the length , by the width, by the depth divided by 230 and that’s your answer in square inches. We found this in the book 500 Ways for be a Better Freshwater Fishkeeper. Firefly Books.
This is great information, I wonder why you divide by 230? Your citation shows good research skills.
Mrs. B.
Where do you poot the fish when you cleen the tank
How do you know what kind of food to get the fish
How do you care for a fish if its sick
Ben F. & James W. these are good questions. I wonder where you put (spelling word) the fish when cleaning (sp.) the tank. Would you have to have another tank, or maybe a large glass jar with water at the correct temperature? Fish food - one of the reasons we are doing research, good question. The sick fish question is also a very good one. Just like people, if we expose our healthy fish to a sick fish, we can probably make them all sick. That wouldn’t be good.
Mrs. B.
Question: How do you keep your fish tank clean
One way to keep your tank clean is to have a freshwater crab in the tank because they will eat just about anything(like alage) and will pollute the tank less. You can even “hire” a freshwater snail. Both the crab and the snail would pollute the tank less than a regular algae eater.
This information was gathered from AquariPure.com
J & J,
This sounds interesting. I’ve heard of algae eaters (fish), but had not heard of freshwater crabs. How large do they grow? What other precautions would we need to take? I also like the idea of the freshwater snail. We had an algae eater and it didn’t work very well.
Mrs. B.
Clean the filter every week. Clear slime or plant waste out of the filter.
Clean the inside of the tank with a scrubber pad.We found it at:
http://www.ehow.com/how_3260_clean-aquarium.html
Good, this comment will answer the question about filters and how to care for the filter. Can I use a scrubber pad (without detergent) like the one I use for dishes, or do I need to buy a special one from the pet store?
Mrs. B.
Be careful of Oscar they probably eat other fish and particularly messy. Don’t get Cichlids they can grow very big. A piranha fish can eat any unhealty goldfish. Avoid catfish the will grow and grow.
informaton from
http://www.ehow.com/how_5802_choose-fish-freshwater.html
Hannah, good suggestions about which fish to avoid. I thought Cichlids were supposed to be good for aquariums, but your note lets me know that I should think again and not choose a cichlid. I also know that catfish might eat other fish. So I know that there are three fish I wouldn’t want. Good research.
Mrs. B.
Gold fish eat mostly vegetables like letuce and spinach And sometimes Brine shrimp of mosquito Larvae. I found this information of Ehow.
Ben A., I like goldfish, but I didn’t know they like lettuce and spinach! I can understand that they eat brine shrimp since a lot of fish eat brine shrimp. I really like the information on eHow. It is clear, understandable and reliable.
Mrs. B.
It’s no an easy thing t have a goldfish because they aren’t real tropical fish so they need cooler water. They may also have health problems
The question: which plants should go in an aquarium?
1.How big is your tank? different plants are bigger than others.
2. Do you have enought light? Some plants need more light than others.
3.You want to see the fish, so put small plants in the front.
4.One plant that is short is an aponogeton; it is from a bulb.
5. Some plants, like elodea or egeria, add oxygen to the water.
6. Crystalwort or floating liverwort grows well under bright light.
7.Hornwort grows large - about 21 inches - good for the back
8.Hygro - good for medium light
9. some plants will fool you, look good for a month & then die.
examples:hedges to bog plants, and include fountain plants, Chinese evergreens, Brazilian swordgrass, alligator plants, club mosses and umbrella pines.
All information cme from http://www.ehow.com/how_5804_choose-plants-aquarium.html
Good editing Rory!
When should you put the fish in the tank?
It depends on the fish. If it is a big fish you should wait and put the little ones in first because the big fish might place a strain in the filter. the little fish you can put in as soon as you want to but the big fish you should wait until the filter is ready.
get the water to acclimate: water in the bag needs to be the same as the water in the tank.
Good, you found this in the 500 ways book. Good comment.
what temp the water should be in the tank
the temperature should be 32 degrees or if it’s to cold the water would
freeze and they would die. I grew salmon and that’s the temp. for them.
Is this the temp for tropical fish?
Tropical fish need warmer temperatures. So, can you find out the ideal temp. for freshwater fish?
How to choose a fish
School of fish would be the best if you want a group of fish. Smaller fish should not be kept with predators such as Moray Eel. A cleaner Wrasse will remove parasites from other fish species. Do not have any things that the fish can get stuck in such as rock fromations will holes. It would be very good to have some things that a fish is use to in the tank. Don’t put 2 male betta in one tank they can get very aggressive but bettas are good community tanks with other kinds of fish.
where we fond information.
500 ways to be better fish keeper.
Aquarium fish
We found out that catfish only get along with other catfish, but they also do well at eating alage out of tanks.
Info from: Ehow.com
gold fish mostly eat vegtables like letuce and spinach and sometime brine shrimp. http://www.bookbugs.com
It’s not easy to take care of fish, you have to feed them, love them, clean out the bowl or tank, and that is not fun. You have to do it every week. I got this information from experience - I used to have a fish tank.
Great comment - Experience is a great teacher.
Mrs. B.
Maintaining your home freshwater aquarium fish:
1.Check your tank every day to make sure the fish are not dead.
2.Observe each fish individually. That makes it easier to find a sick fish when they act different.
3.feed your fish every other day. Maintain their diet.
4.Top off your tank to keep it from evaporating.
5. Remove 5 to 10 percent of the tank water and replace it with fresh water once a week. This helps get rid of bad chemicals in the tank and helps keep the tank’s chemistry close to that of your own tap water. This means that you’ll have fewer problems if you ever need to do an emergency water change.
6.Scrape off algee every week.
7.Check your filter pads every 2 weeks. Change them if they look bad.
info from eHow.com
Good observations, when you think about it, it’s a bit like doing your laundry and keeping your room clean, isn’t it?
Mrs. B,
Are Chinese catfish the same as American Catfish?
Wich fish are best?
smaller fish should not be kept with perdators such as the Moray Eel.
Cleaner Wrasse removers parasites from other species. Male bettas don’t do well in the same tank but bettas will not harm other kinds of fish.
How to choose the right Aquarium?
Think about ware you are putting the aquarium. You need to put it near a eletical outlit to work the filter.Try to avoid regular light bulbs you should use fluorescent lights it gives off very little heat and cost less.Info from eHow.
the question: HOW TO CHOOSE A TANK
1.Make note of how much room you are working with it must also be somewhat close to an electrical outlet.
2.If you aree a non-experienced aquariumist (haha) then then start with a smaller tank. This will make it easyer to control and manage , good starting sizes are 10-20 gallon tanks. you can find them in most pet stores.
3.Be aware that there are many different aquarium shapes. Tall cilinders are popular. The standard is a long rectangle, which looks bigger than it really is.
4.The kind of siding is important also. Acrylic options such as plexiglas. It scratches easily though. Plate glass is very heavy which is inconvenient. But it is easy to replace. Rounded corners are cool.
How to get a good fresh water fish:
1 Figure out how many fish you’ll need (general rule of thumb, 2inches of fish = 1 gallon necessary .You should get a good bit more).
2 Buy it (your fish) from a reputable dealer. Can he/she walk the walk and talk the talk? Strong words, meaning, I think, that the dealer should have fish of their own and really like fish, (Mrs. B.)
3 Do some recshearch. Some fish have special needs, tempurture , and cemicals that can’t be used in the tank.
All info from Ehow.
Michael, these comments are great. Especially #3. That is why we are doing research right now. We will know a great deal about owning fish and about buying or having a pet.
I think that you should clean a fish tank every week because it can get very dirty fast and that is not good for fish.
Charlotte, great comment. Where did you find this info? Also, what is the best way to clean the tank - should I take the fish out when I clean the tank?
Another question from Charlotte: How long is the average life span of a fish?
I think you should get goldfish for your tank. I think goldfish are the most common fish though, so you might want a less common fish. I know of a fish that is blue and yellow i think and because my friend had one i am predicting they are not that hard to take care of.
Hi Irjaliina, goldfish are common in aquariums, but we need to have some research showing which fish will be best for our school aquarium. Do goldfish eat other fish? Perhaps your research will show you some more accurate answers. Very often, when we go into a pet store without doing “our homework” we can bring home some pets that are not compatible. (Wait until you see what happens with Trapper & King in the story we are reading now. That is a case of pets that are incompatible!)
If we want to choose a fish, then we need to know its correct name. I think we all need to remember this.
Mrs. B.
What type of fish go good together?
Hi Jackson, Good question! That is an Essential Question; I hope you will continue researching this question to find out which fish go well together. Can you use the 500 Ways to Be a Better Freshwater Fishkeeper book? I know it will give you great answers to your excellent question.
Mrs. B.
I think you should get gold fish or someother small type of fish. I also think you should get 2 differant kinds of fish
These are good thoughts. Now I need for you to do some research to find out which fish would actually be best for our 35 gallon tank. Sometimes we think we know the answer to a question, but we will have better results if we do the research. As I told Liina, we need to do “our homework” before we walk into the pet store and just choose fish because they are pretty. Imagine! We could bring home some fish that would eat one another, or that would fight all the time. Keep researching and remember to read the comments of others in order to save time. Good beginning.
Mrs. B.
You should wait a day befor putting your fish in the tank so the water in the tank can become room temp.
can you put female chnese fighting fish[batta fish] live with other fish and not get in fights?
why do you need a filter for the tank?
why can some fish not live together?
how many fish can go ito a 35 gallon tank ?
Eliza, you have some excellent questions: male Betta fish like to fight so I wouldn’t put them with any other fish. Female betta fish can be put with other females, but not if there is a male nearby. I think your research will tell you about filters and about the number of fish that can live in a 35 gallon tank. Let me know what you find out and also, let me know where you find your information.
Mrs. B.
We think that tropical fish look nice in an aquarium because there are many different colors that make it shine. We wonder what the most common fish is that people now-a-day have? What some resturaunts do now, is that they get all the fish from “Finding Nemo” which looks really cool in an aquarium. Another cool fish is the “pigeon blood” (sounds weird but it is very shimery!!!) “Kissing fish” are interesting too!
They are little with a very calming white color with a shade of pink mixed in. “Zebra Fish” are awesome because they look just like a Zebra!!!!! Although they have things hanging from their chin they are cool.” Ropefish” are like a snake only minerature! ew! That is what we have to say about fish.
Wow, Tily and Meagan, you two had a lot to say. The colors of the fish do make aquariums interesting. I think that the question about what is the most common fish is a good Essential Question. Can you look for the answer? Make sure you tell me where you find the answer.
The clownfish is pretty, but what is its habitat? So would those fish be good in our aquarium? You have described some very beautiful fish. Now we need to decide which ones would live in our aquarium. Can you do some research on this and let me know where the answers can be found.
Mrs. B.
A good fish is a Gold fish because it’s small and you can put it in a realy small clear Gold fish bowl. A bad fish is a Siemes fighting fish but they can be good if that’s the only fish in the bowl. If you put two male Siemes fighting fish, they will tear eachother apart and you do not want that to happen, do you?
Goldfish are pretty, but I don’t know about whether they belong in our school aquarium. I need for you to do some research about the best fish for a 35 gallon aquarium. The 500 Ways book is full of great information. The eHow website also has a lot of great answers to our Essential Questions. Siamese fighing fish, also called Betta fish, are very pretty, but two males will fight and then you will have only one. I guess they would not be good in our aquarium.
Mrs. B.
Try and get some fish that you like. It dosen’t really matter to anyone, mabye get a lot of small fish or few big fish it depends on you! (P.S… don’t forget to feed the fish(es))
Tyler, this is why we do research. I want you to find out which fish are best for our school’s 35 gallon tank. There are some fish that would not do well together and we need to know which ones before we go to the pet store. I need for you to do some research to give accurate answers to some of our Essential Questions. I hope we don’t forget to feed the fish - but first, what kind of food do we give our fish? Hmmmm, not all fish like the same food! Just like people.
Mrs. B.
We got our info on the fish from “Fresh Water Aquarium Fish”.
Question how long do they live?
some Goldfish can live for almost 20 years! If they are well fed and their water is clean. Usually the bigger fish live longer than the fish that are not as big.
Interesting thought! Where did you find your info? I know that goldfish can live a long time. There are a number of pets that live a lot longer than you might think. I wonder which pets can live the longest. Imagine having a pet when you are 11 and then still having it when you are 31. That’s a long time.
Question what equiment do i need?
most aquariums are rectanguar and have a metal frame, glass sides and ends and a slate bottom makes a really good aquarium. The bottom of the aquarium should have sand, not gravel. And it is always good to add a few castels, divers and meraids etc.
Now for the hard stuff: what kind of plants should we have and what other equipment, such as filters and heaters, should we buy?
Good answers to your questions - don’t forget to give the resource used in your answer. You may just write the shorthand such as 500 Ways or eHow.com so I’ll know where the info came from. Great work.
to make a fish comfotable you need the right tempurture of water. you need food the fish will like. get plantsfor th fish to swim thru. you need to have little treats treats to give the fish do tricks.
Hi Elena & Eliza,
What could we get to make the water the correct temperature? Do different kinds of fish need different temperature water? What is the purpose of the plants in the tank? I know some fish like to hide in the plants, but is there another reason for having them? What kinds of treats do fish like?
Make sure you tell me where you find your info.
Mrs. B.
justin how long do the big ones live compared to the small and medium sized ones?
looks like you know alot about fish.
How long does the average catfish live? Do they all clean your tank? And how big do they grow?
Hi Charlotte,
Where DID you get your info from? Do you do that with your fish at home?
Emma P. and Marissa R.
Jackson you may want to put fish of the same size because bigger fish would prey on te smallern ones.
Jackson I think gold fish are really cute. I heard goldfiish are bad with other goldfish but I don’t find that to be true because i actually had 4 gold fish and they never ever fought .
Now, you need to find information from a book or a website to back up your thinking. Let’s also look for more types of fish to have in our tank.
Mrs. B.
snails are bad for the tank. They pollute the tank and they also take over the tank.
I read that too, where did you find the information?
Mrs. B.
If you have a tropical fish you need to have the rite tempeter of water and you need a heater becuase they are ue to hot climates and you need to have. the angel fish is silver with black striped fins and sides it is flat and oval in shape with long pointed fins and its up to 5 inches in lengh and grows fast it is a vey graceful swimming fish.
Nice description of the Angel Fish. Is a fish that can grow to 5″ too big for our tank? It is very graceful! The right temperature is important.
Mrs. B.
Can 2 catfish live together? If so can an Armored catfish live with a Sucker Mouth catfish?
Your question about what supplies to get for your fish, here is an answer. You should get a heater-thermostat and a thermometer and a clean bucket or bowl, nets, medicine for sicknes, and filter of wool or foam. I found this information in 500 ways to be a better Freshwater fishkeeper.
Is an Angel fish a freshwater fish?
That’s a good question, Joey, I think you know how to find the answer in the 500 Ways… book. If the Angel Fish is in that book, then it should be freshwater. Or, you could look it up in an encyclopedia like the one I showed the class on MARVEL! for Kids.
Mrs. B.
What fish lay eggs?
Another really good question! See my answer for your comment above.
Mrs.B., I think you should get the “RED JEWEL AFRICAN CICHLID” or the “BLUE JEWEL AFRICAN CICHLID because they are a reasonable size (4 inches). And they are not a handful because they don’t breath as often as other fish. Although they are extremely territorial at breeding time.
I like the names of these two fish. I’m interested in their breathing…. I suppose that if we didn’t want to breed them, then we wouldn’t need to worry as much about the territorial concerns.
Mrs. B.
Just a reminder, please don’t use your last name when writing.
Hi J&J,
I know this information! I want you to write it in your own words. That shows me your ability to understand what you are reading. Also, please remember to give me the location of the information, for example, eHow.com or 500 Ways (book).
Mrs. B.
Question: What kind of fish should be in the tank?
Answer: STEP 1: Think about the number of fish you can take care of then how many you can fit into your tank. A reasonable amount is 2 inches of fish per gallon of water.
STEP 2: Buy your fish from a good dealer who will back up his product. You wanthealthy and clean fish that won’t get each other sick. A good sign that the seller knows what he’s talking about is his tankon display. Do the fish seem happy? Is it the way you imagine your tank looking when it’s complete? If you see dead things floating in the tanks, look elsewhere.
STEP 3: Read about the fish you want. Some have particular needs to keep alive, whether temperature, chemical, dietary, or compatibility-related.
STEP 4: Get school fish. Compatibility problems are minimal and it will be easy to see if any of the fish are behaving oddly (meaning if there ill). Try neons or cardinal tetras, Corydoras catfish, any of the small barbs, rasboras, loaches, or pearl and zebra danios.
STEP 5: try not to get one of everything you like, particularly with school fish.
STEP 6: Try a bristle-nose or clown plecostomus, or a pair of otocinclus catfish to help control the algae.
STEP 7: Raise killifish, which are excellent for when you just get a tank but difficult to find.
STEP 8: Ask your fish dealer about compatibility with other fish in your tank. Be careful of cichlids ‘ some grow quite large. Angelfish require tanks larger than 10 gallons. Stay away from Oscars, which tend to eat the other fish and are particularly messy.
STEP 9: Avoid the urge to impress people with a piranha. This shy fish has the unfortunate honor of eating many of those unhealthy goldfish. This is not only expensive, but unless you want to quarantine every feeder fish you buy, you’re likely to have issues with disease and parasites. They are school fish but need to be well-fed or they will eat each other.
STEP 10: Think about Bala sharks, which are cool-looking non-sharks. They grow to more than 12 inches, however, so unless you’re ready to accommodate that much fish, it’s best to leave these alone.
STEP 11: Avoid catfish in general. They are nasty predators and tend to grow. And grow. And grow.( and get to big for the tank!)
Question: How many fish can fit in a 35 gallon tank?
One rule of thumb when deciding on how many fish to purchase is you should have 2 fish per gallon of water. Fish need quite a lot of space to eat and SWIM! You should also try not to get messy eaters because they can pollute the water & if you have a lot of fish in one tank, it can ruin their day!
Information from ehow.com
justin i agree with you fish can live up
to 20 years some can live less nice job justin reasching
Hi guys, where did you find your information? I need for you to do your own research. Also, remember to check your spelling before submitting your blog.
Mrs. B.
What is are some advantige that a guppy has?
It eats worms, crustaceans, insects, plant matter, and dried food.
The males length is 1.2in and 3cm and the females length is 2.4in and 6cm.
The length of the tank should be12in and 30cm.
The water tempature should be 72 to 83 F and 22 to 28 C.
Amanda, these are great reasons for having guppies in our tank! Great work.
Mrs. B.
What do you do if the power is out and the filter is not running?
Really good question. I have a tank and I worry when the power is out. We only have one fish, if the power is out for under two hours, or in the summer, usually the fish is ok. But if the power goes out for longer, I think I might move the fish into a temporary tank and put the tank, or bowl, into the warmest room I have. The other worry is that the heater or filter will not restart when the power comes back on. Fish aren’t the kind of pets that you can ignore!
How big do Guppy s get? Do they get alone with othere Guppys?
Male Guppys can grow up to 1.5 in. and females can grow to be 2.4 in.
Guppys life best with atlest 3 males and 6 females.
Things to think of before you buy your fishy companion are: buy in the middle of the week. Never buy anything from a sick tank. Look for clear eyes, and that the dorsal fins are errect. If they look good they probably heathly. Remeber that most likely the fish in the tanks are juventille fish. Ask how large the will grow. Remeber 2 inch of fish = 1 gallon of water. Also growwing fish should get 1.5 inch of fish= 1 gallon, because you never will know how large they will
grow. When trasporting a tiny fish like a neon,(a neon injected fish.)ask for a second bag and for the dealer to take all the corners out. They might suffacate. These are all things one should do before and while buying a fish.
Very good notetaking Michael. I perked up your spelling a bit, but you have found some really good solid information. Thanks.
If you are going to buy a fish, make sure to select one that is healthy. A few ways to do that are to make sure that you pick a fish that is not hiding in the corner of the tank. This could mean that they are injured or ill. Also make sure that your fish is not holding their fins tightly to their body or those that have split fins. This also means the fish is not terribly healthy, and would not be a good fish for you.
These are good observations. Can you tell me where you found your info?
Mrs. B.
I got my information on the last entry that I wrote from ehow.com
Question: What is its feeding schedule?
You should feed your every morning and evening. If the fish has not completely finished the food in 2 minutes then you have given them to much food.
Good points Briana, where did you find this info?
Mrs. B.

Hi Guys, Good comments and great resource. If I were putting together a freshwater aquarium, I would use this book as a most important resource. It has almost everything laid out in a very orderly manner.
Mrs. B.
To dispove of a goldfish that has died you must . . .
1. Use a mesh net to remove the fish from its tank.
2. Put the fish in a box and bury it out side if that is what you prefer.
3. Make sure to dig a deep hole so that nieghbor hood ptes don’t find it while digging.
4.Place your goldfish on a saucer wraped in tissuue if you would like to do it the other way.
5. Go into the bathroom.
6. Carefully slide the fish off the saucer into the tiolet bowl.
7. Say a few words of respect to the nearly dparted fish if you care to.
8. Flush
9. Wash your hands and the saucer if you used one well with soap and hot water
10.Clean the fish’s net and bowl incase you have or will be getting other fish because your fish might have died of disease
I got this info. from ehow.com
Hi Charlotte,
I like the information I found on eHow.com. It is good info - could you write it in your own words so that I would know that you understood it very well?
Mrs. B.
neon tetra are tough and peaceful, which make them good for beginner fish, but are hard to breed. (from aquarium fish by Dick Mills)
Great suggestions Jackson - since we aren’t worried about breeding our fish, then maybe a neon tetra would be an excellent choice. I like the fact that you call them “beginner fish”. We are certainly beginners as far as freshwater fish are concerned.
Mrs. B.
How about asking the person who is in charge of fish: what fish are good together and see what kind of fish you would like that would be good together. Try and get some gold fish.
Tyler, I would definitely ask at the pet store about fish compatibility. I like goldfish too, but don’t know how large they grow or how compatible they are with other fish.
Mrs. B.
A catfish can clean the algee of ov the tank. It can save time and you dont have to take the fish ut of the tank to clean it. but if it gets too clean, you may need to get algee tablets and put them in the tank. Some catfish may eat the others but the Sckermouth Catfish doesn’t eat others. It can grow 7 inches long. An Armored Catfish is a carnivor so you cant buy it with other fish in the tank.
I got this from Wikipiedia
Hi Joey, you have made some good points and have told us about some interesting fish. I wonder if your class will choose any catfish. We have a catfish that ate some of the other fish. Well, they just disappeared so I think he ate them. He must be a carnivore. I’ll show you a picture of him during class. It is interesting to think that a catfish could make the tank “too clean” and then you would need to add algae. The suckermouth catfish might be too long for our tank, what do you think?
Mrs. B.
Stick pellets are useful for large barbs.
We found this info in a book called 500 fish types.
Marissa & Emma, This is a good fact to know. Now I need to find out which fish are barbs. Since you found this in the 500 Ways… book, I would think that I could also find out which fish are barbs by looking in that book.
Mrs. B.
If you are going to get a fish ALWAYS buy carefully and, if possible, do some research on your intended purchases beforehand.Reject any fish that you can not care for in space or food.place a travel home bag in the water for 15 to 20 minutes so the water temperature will equalize preventing thermal shock. As you know defferent fish eat defferent foods so ask the store manager about what is the best food for your fish. There are 6 defferent types of food (that I know) novorift,freeze- dried tubiflex, flake food,bloodworm,freeze-dried daphnia and ant eggs.
Despite the fact that we want to see our fish clearly, a bear aquarium is not a pretty sight so ask somone you know who is a good fish person. This info is from The Encyclopedia of Aquarium Fish thanks for reading. James W
Hi James W. You have done a great job of gathering facts. I like that you say we should do research about our intended purchases before buying. That makes sense, and that is why we are doing research and blogging about our findings. I think having a bare (sp) aquarium is a little uninteresting. Do you think there are some plants that would be good for just about any basic aquarium? I like the way you give credit to your source.
Thanks, Mrs. B.
I think you should get the same kind of fish that cooprerate good and are good together and get a least 8-10 because if each fish counts an inch, when they double there size they will be 16, 18, 20/30 gallons thats how I figured it out and if they triple their size they’ll be 24, 27, 30/30 it’s your choise!
Tyler, I’m impressed by your analysis of the fish number/tank size ratio. You are so correct that we need to buy fish that will have room to grow. Good thinking.
Mrs. B.
You should feed the fish a least every time you eat dinner and breakfast just skip lunch, desert, and snacks. (feed after your done eating) Also ask the person who’s in charge of the fish and ask what kind of food do they like and where to get them and don’t forget to say “thank you”
Hi Tyler, I know that I have to be careful not to overeat and so do fish. I think that it might be better not to over-feed them. I certainly agree with you that one should ask the person at the pet, or fish, store for food info and feeding times. Saying “thank you” is always a good idea. It makes other people feel good.
